The bbq is amazing! However they should put the microwave somewhere out of the customers view. I thought the hotdog I ordered would be grilled, but it was microwaved, not something I would have expected from a bbq place. The lady at the counter is lacking customer service skills. I do love this place, its delish!

The food here is phenomenal. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. I got the rib tips, they were the best I've ever had. Huge portion. It's located in an old Taco Bell building.

I've been back here a few times since my last review. Wow... I've been impressed every time. The consistency of their food is incredible. Ribs are spot on every time and the Pulled pork is delicious and the size of your head, seriously, it's huge. The sauce is too sweet. It's good if you like that... but it's not working for me. It works on the pulled pork, but there is way too much on the ribs (get the sauce on the side). If the sauce is on the ribs... it's overpowering the amazing rub and smoke they put into the rib meat. Dropped my rating back from 5 to 4, I'd really like to see another sauce option that was more hot and less sweet. But the pulled pork, brisket, wings, and of course the ribs still get a 5 (I'd give the ribs a 6 if possible.)

Overall great food, great price. We have never eaten in only to-go. Always quick and friendly. The pulled pork is definitely the best choice, juicy and great flavor. My husband always orders the chicken but in my opinion it is dry, even with all the sauce you need a drink. The coleslaw has great flavor with a lil kick, the baked beans very meaty. The potato salad not that much flavor, which is a surprise because everything else is seasoned well. The sauce by far is my favorite sugary sweet spicy! My only other complaint is their business hours....no Monday's and they close early.

Some of the best food I've ever eaten in my life has been from little hole in the wall spots and this is no exception. There's no pretense here that this is anything other than a darn good BBQ joint... and trust me, they do BBQ right. We had the pulled pork sandwiches, which were HUGE and we downed every bite. The meat is cooked to perfection and the sauce is the perfect compliment of sweet with a slow building kick. Fantastic BBQ - do yourself a favor and go order a plate - you won't b sorry!

DO NOT come to St Louis WITHOUT making the effort to eat at Lil Mickey's! It's small, cozy, down home, plays great music, has a super friendly staff, and the food! OMG, this is some of the best BBQ I've ever had. I tried to come last night but did not realize they closed pretty early (7:00). But the look and feel (and smell) of the place only made me want to come back more desperately. This evening I made a point of heading straight over after work. The guy taking my order recognized me from the night before, even though I was only there a moment to check out the hours to ensure I didn't miss the opportunity. I ordered the sample platter and a bottle of water. The guy ringing me out told me "Man! You know that's a lot of food, right?" I figured what the hell, I'll take leftovers back to the hotel for breakfast. I took my seat at one of the three small tables in the tiny dining area, smiling back at the publicity shots of Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Rufus and Carla Thomas, BB King and Muddy Waters. Solid blues played over the speakers, massaging my ear drums while I waited for the food to arrive, which did not take long. I was greeted with a seriously massive plate of food. Without hesitation I dug into some of the tastiest barbeque I've ever had, dipping ribs and smothering brisket, pork and chicken with their delicious sauce. The coleslaw and bean sides were also to die for. I was in sticky messy bliss. My only complaint is that there is no liquor license. This kind of food really needs a beer to compliment it. But they do take out, and I could soooo easily see stopping by to pick up some to-go before heading to a picnic spot with a six pack of cold beers and my woman at my side. Mmm MM!

This is an excellent little dive. Good smoke, really seasoned meats, and a sweet/spicy sauce. The ribs were excellent and tender... just right. The turkey may have been the best I have have. Chunks of seasoned and smoked white meat. No deli sliced crap here! : )

This was just ok, having spent many years in Memphis I was really looking forward to that style of BBQ. The ribs were tender but way over cooked with very little flavor other than the sauce. The sauce was to sweet for me and they pour it on. I won't go back just didn't do it for me but as the other reviewers say it might be just what they are looking for. The place was very clean and the service was fine.

I have picked up the rib tips several times. The portions are generous. The flavor is great, except that I would prefer less of the relatively sweet sauce.

Was in the area visiting family. Loved the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. Other people in the group liked their ribs. Funny to read the reviews about the front counter help- I found it amusing since I knew what to expect.

Lil' Mickey's. Big BBQ sandwiches. So, this place is located in an old Taco Bell just off of I-70 in St. Peters. It's strange, but it doesn't matter so much, because the food is good. I ordered the brisket sandwich with some unmemorable sides. The sandwich was the size of my head! It nearly filled one of those standard size heavy duty paper plates. And it was good! Juicy, thick, flavorful. They are pretty proud of their sauce, but I thought it was too sweet and overpowering. The brisket itself had a ton of great flavor. I see a lot of complaints about the service, but for a hole in the wall BBQ joint, I thought they were much nicer than most other places I've been. It's nice to see a quality non-chain fast food restaurant out in the mecca of chain restaurants.

Lil' Mickey's Memphis Barbeque A good first impression is very important to any business and is especially important to a restaurant. Unfortunately, Lil' Mickeys fell far short of a good impression. The service was insulting and the food was average at best. I have to shake my head at the reviews that say this is good BBQ or the best in STL. The BBQ beef is not Memphis style, it is actually not even BBQ. It was pot roast with a really weak sauce. Look there are many good BBQ places in STL that are better then Lil' Mickeys. Usually I'll give a place a second chance. I just can't do that in this case. I suggest you don't to waste your time and money going to this place.

Don't be fooled by the name, the portions here are anything but little. I have a favorite BBQ place down in Arkansas where my grandparents live and every BBQ place gets compared to them in my mind and so far, none had matched up. Thankfully, I can say I have finally found a place close to home where all my dreams can come true. The BBQ sauce is sweet but there is definitely a spice to it. The meat is smothered in this sauce and then topped with coleslaw that elicits that same sweet and spicy combination in its own way. The car ride home was maddening smelling it all. The true test came when I opened the container of beans. It had chunks of meat shredded inside and that my friends is where it is at. Between my husband and I, we had ordered a pork sandwich, a brisket sandwich, a large order of slaw and a large order of beans. It came to around $20 and was the perfect size in regards to portions. I know I'll be back to try more of the menu next time. Pros: Perfect BBQ, great sauce, warm service, huge portions Cons: My mouth is too small, all diet plans will be forever ruined, you will need lots of napkins

Can I please take away the one star rating. Can there be minus star ratings? Been to Memphis, had BBQ, Lil' Mickey's is no where close to Memphis. First, the service was beyond poor, it was rude. While waiting for my food I saw the order taker have attitude with each customer. Then, when my food was ready, the order was wrong. She stated she wasn't wrong but I was wrong. Finally got my order and was disappointed with the food. As one poster reported, pot roast, very poor pot roast. Avoid like the No id. And another thing, not a goddamn picture of Elvis.

This is a difficult review because I could go 5 or 3 stars...here's why: - the meat is 4.5 to 5 stars. If you love great ribs or rib tips, smoked turkey or chicken, especially smoked wings... You'll love the meat here. - the sides are barely 2.5 to 3 stars. Only baked beans, cole slaw, French fries, and potato salad. No green beans, no collard greens. Nothing green or real veggies for that matter. No apple sauce. - this place is not kid friendly. Not young family friendly. No kids menu really. No milk or kids drinks but soda and water. Also, what's with bbq joints without sweet tea or root beer!?!?!?!?!? I will order take out for the family. I can't forget the service. The business is run by a couple who is soooo nice and helpful. They have great service for a carry out/not waited on restaurant. They are great people so it helped tip me to 4.

We found this place thanks to Yelp and TripAdvisor. My boyfriend and I ordered the sampler and it was worth it. I believe it came with ribs, chicken leg, chicken breast, pork brisket, 2 sides, 2 slices of white bread, and pulled pork. Everything tasted great, but the pork brisket and ribs were our favorites! The BBQ sauce was delicious and all the meat was tender and flavorful. The meat fell right off the ribs, too.

The real deal, did a google search of bbq in st charles and ended here. Ordered to brisket - I got home and could not believe the size. I ate it all and wanted to drive back immediately for more. I WILL be back! GO THERE - get the brisket. Next time I will get sauce on the side mmmmmm

The best BBQ in St Louis! Friendly owners! The older woman who works the front can be a bit Intimidating she really is not too friendly, but once you make it past her you'll have a meal you won't regret! The sauce is amazing and my fav is the chopped pork sandwich!

Was pleased with the flavor and portions. Location and ambience could be better, but the flavor is well worth it. Come with an appetite my wife and I could have split one sandwich. Restaurant seemed clean and well kept.

Walked in after the lunch crowd around 130pm and ordered a pulled pork sandwich. I first asked for double meat, as most times at other bbq joints the meat is woefully lacking in quantity, however, Charlie, the employee, looked at me with surprise and stated, "you've not been here before have you?". He was right, I had not, so I took his suggestion and backed off on on the double meat. While waiting for my sandwich to go, the conversation was lively and centered on good eats in Louisiana. Charlie was right, the sandwich was nice size and the pulled pork was great. No bits of fat or charred pieces, just all tender, lean, smokey pork. The sauce was pretty good too. A small amount of chopped mustard slaw sat beneath the meat on the sandwich and gave it a nice crunch. Hard to find, but well worth it. I'll be back when I'm in St. Charles again. Thanks Charlie.

Im so glad we found this place. This is an amazing joint and each time I go you can tell the word is getting out as they get busier and busier. A wonderful lady who is one of the owners is always super nice and the service is awesome. I think the whole family is there helping out most of the time. It is just an old Taco Bell building that they painted and cleaned up, but it is the food that makes this place even more special. The Pulled Pork is always amazing and the meat falls right off the bones on the Ribs. The sauce is a nice sweet BBQ sauce, but it also has just enough kick to make your mouth water for more. My story about this place is when I first found it. I gave them a call to find out about the smoking. Being a recent implant from Arizona where the whole state is smoke free it was a rude awaking to come to St Charles and find out they still allow smoking in restaurants. So anyway I called and asked if they allowed smoking in the restaurant and she answered "No, I'm sorry about that" like it was a bad thing. I said "No that is great, we will be right down." When we arrived she recognized my voice and welcomed us and said the only smoking was going on out back in the cookers. It smelled delicious and it was!

Been here several times and it's still amazing BBQ. Have had ribs and pork shoulder combo plate, pulled pork and brisket sandwich. All were nice and smokey. Tasted great without sauce which is how it should be, even better with the sauce! The beans, slaw, and tater salad are all great! Wish they had lunch plates instead of just sandwiches and dinner plates.

Seriously good barbeque! They moved recently to the Cave Springs location and I went there during their soft opening. It is in a old taco bell location so the ambience isn't the best but I think the majority of their business is take-out. We ate in and the owners were so friendly we were glad we did. Definitely worth the drive! Both of us got the pulled pork platter with baked beans and coleslaw. You get a lot of food for your money and there is just the perfect amount of their sweet, tangy sauce on the pork. The beans have lots of meat in them and I'd be happy just making a meal out of their beans. Some of the best bbq I've had in STL!

I don't know what Memphis Barbeque means, but this is the best barbeque in the St. Louis region. I like the sauce, but the rub on the ribs is so good, I order it with the sauce on the side to dip my bread. The beans are terrific, the load it with meat, and I add a more sauce to the beans to juice them up even more. Eating in is a great experience with the food, the smoke smell and the blues music. Love it!

My family and I went to Lil Mickey's last night for dinner -- and...I have no words. All I can say is that Im not typically a bbq fan, I dont like tons and tons of sauce smothering, pretty much, anything I eat, which is why I LOVED this place! You didnt even need the sauce (which I hear is pretty good too, but Im not a sauce fan). The rub they put on the chicken, which I assume is the same or similar to all their meat options, is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! We ordered the "family deal" and got the whole chicken, which comes cut up into 7 or 8 pieces and I ate, no kidding, 3 pieces! I could not get enough! I wanted to come back even before we left! Delicious, simply delicious. The only, and I mean ONLY, downfall to this place are the sides. Loaded with calories, you only get the option of baked beans, fries, coleslaw or potato salad. Wish they had some fresh options (salad? green beans? even corn!?). We had the coleslaw which was pretty fantastic. Its a mustard based coleslaw, so it almost reminds me of my grandmas potato salad, but its definitely worth a try! Great mix of flavor and spices, but overloaded with sauce!! This place is a MUST! Seriously the BEST bbq Ive ever had. Can't wait to go back!

My wife and I visited for the first time this afternoon. I wasn't expecting too much but was blown away!! We love BBQ and it's clear that Lil Mickey's does too because they do it very well. We have already decided that we are going to become regulars at this establishment!!

Everything a backwater BBQ joint should be: small, uncrowded, and stuffed to the gills with kind service and stupendous meat. You'll want to get the sample platter, because you'll want to try a lot of everything. Furthermore, the folks behind the BBQ counter have one hell of a pedigree--the lady who took our order is the niece of Pat and Gina Neely, the Food Network stars!

    (5)
  • Diane N.

This place has a solid BBQ pedigree. Owners Charles and Robbie Butler opened Lil Mickey's Memphis BBQ in 2005. Robbie is the niece of Jim Neely, a famous BBQ king in Memphis and patriarch of the cooking Neely clan of Food Network fame. The tiny place is tucked away in a small store front amongst 4 or 5 stores in a strip. Look closely or you will miss it. It is basically a take-out business. There's only 3 or 4 small tables inside, Elvis, BB King and others are playing in the background. If you are a Memphis BBQ lover...GO THERE! The ribs get their flavor due to a great, flavorful dry rub. The meat is served with sauce on the side. Their homemade sauce is tasty...sweet and spicy. Pulled pork sandwich the Memphis way...with cole slaw piled on top of the meat. Robbie, the owner, takes care of the counter and helped me out with my order. Really nice.

One of the best, if not THE BEST BBQ place I have ever tasted, including those down south. No doubt in the St. Louis area! Pretty much a hole in the wall and not very many people know about it, however if they did there would always be a line out the door. I usually get the beef brisket or ribs. Ribs are my favorite. Very tasty and affordable joint!

So after seeing nothing but glowing reviews of this place I decided to give it a try with a friend of mine. It took as a little while to find the place, but it wasn't too bad. When pulling up I though, "yep, this used to be a taco bell". And the inside didn't change that impression either. If I have one complaint about this place, it's that it doesn't do well in encouraging you to eat there, and seems to prefer that you'd order carryout. In fact the lack of personality in this place is what lowered it from a solid four to a kind of low four (the difference between 90 and 80 if you were going to use a scale of 1-100). That being said, the food is definitely good and worth trying. I hadn't eaten that entire day so I ended up ordering two sandwiches, one pulled pork, and one brisket. It didn't take that long to get our food and when we did I regretted ordering two when one would have done me just fine. The portions are decent sized for the price (though they don't have any drinks that aren't from a can/bottle which again leads me to believe they are trying to have it so people focus on ordering carryout). Anyway, both sandwiches had some sort of slaw on them which was a creamy mustard based slaw. The seasoning reminded me of deviled eggs which worked well for the most part, though one of my sandwiches I felt had a bit too much slaw to where it started to overpower the rest of the sandwich. However the part that people come here for, the BBQed meats, were tender, well seasoned, and delicious. They put their house BBQ sauce which I have to say is pretty tasty. They use a lot of it though so prepare to get messy. My friend had the ribs which were seasoned in a dry rub (he ordered sauce on the side of his). I had a bite of them and they were pretty tasty and fall off the bone tender. His girlfriend had the turkey breast which again, she said was delicious. As for the sides, I just tried a bit of what my friends got. The pork and beans were very well done with actual chunks of pulled pork mixed in. The slaw was the same stuff they put on my sandwiches. And the fries were pretty good (nothing to write home about, but still tasty and seasoned properly). The entire time we kept comparing this place to Pappy's and finding that some of the stuff was on par, some wasn't quite as good and some was better. If you know anything about Pappy's you have to know that is high complements for the food. I had to give this places brisket the edge over what I had at Pappy's, the pork was about even, but I found that Pappy's slaw and ribs were a bit better. However as to which place I would rather go back to I'd have to give the edge to Pappy's merely for the atmosphere and service there. if this place ever manages to take it's service to another level though, possibly expand it's dinning area or find a bigger building in the area from which to do business I could see this place being a serious contender for best BBQ in St. Louis.

Some of the best BBQ in the metro area, and the best I know of in St. Charles Co. Located in a long-abandoned Taco Bell in a stretch of street with quite a bit of empty buildings. Used to be in a strip mall on Mid Rivers, not far from the mall. Not a fan of that previous take out location, the new one is still pretty small and spartan, but a big improvement. Sandwiches are large and tasty, I have only gotten the pulled pork. I'd like to try the brisket but it comes chopped, and I am not a fan of that. Meat has dusting of seasoning on top. House sauce very tasty, but copious, I'd get it on the side. Not a fan of the coleslaw, so I omitted it the second time I went. Sides are a la carte and generous, drinks by the can, though reasonable at $.85. Give this place a try!

I went to Kansas city for BBQ and when I came back I was introduced to Lil' Mickey's. WOW! It has to be some of the best BBQ I've had. I generally eat the BBQ turkey and it's sauce is perfect, just hot enough, just spicy enough. The portions are GOOD. The only down fall are no fries or good sides. But if you want AWESOME BBQ make sure you go to Lil' Mickeys!

Four of us went to the new location last night. The ribs, pulled pork, slaw and baked beans were all tens! Folks.... It's all about the sauce. Support locally owned businesses. Yes it's even better than my other favorite, Pappy 's.

Had been watching Food Network this weekend and it's grilling week. They were constantly showing BBQ ribs and brisket, etc. Started to crave it, so when I started reading all the reviews here on Yelp, I stopped by Lil Mickey's and grabbed the rib dinner and the brisket dinner for my family. I just have to say the brisket was tender and juicy and soooooo delicious! The ribs were divine as well! So happy to have finally found a place in St. Charles County that has such excellent food! We will definately be headed back to try more of the meats soon!

The pulled pork is to die for. It is one of the best in the country. $6.50 for the sandwich. I love the baked beans w little strips of pork. A large for $4.00 is a meal into it self. The tips I give an 4 star but maybe the pork skewed the view. The old taco bell facility makes it easy to get in and relax.

Stopped here for a late lunch on the way out of town. Had a pork shoulder sandwich with sauce and coleslaw, and a side of beans. It was a lot of food, even for a large fellow like me. More of a knife/fork kind of sandwich unless you get the sauce and coleslaw on the side. Memphis style is to serve the slaw on the sandwich. Very tasty sauce, excellent smoky flavor on the pork. This is more of a take-out place, but eating in was just fine. We were well tended by the proprietor.

First off, I've always supported this place. (read my previous reviews) Food is good. But after my last visit- yes- literally it will be my LAST visit, I'm done. I walked in (doors were OPEN) to place an order for my staff, so it would have been a big order. I was told angrily by Robbie, the owner, to "get out, we closed". It was 30 seconds till 11am. 30 seconds. I said "really? It 30 seconds till 11 and I have a good order for you". He said "I don't care, get out. You on my time, not yours" and walked me outside and slammed the door behind him. I was stunned. I walked back to my car, shaking my head in disbelief. I'm done. They've always been chippy with customers. I just can't do it anymore. And after the way Robbie treated me, I'll never return. I've been coming here 1-2 times a week for 5 years. That's a lot of money. Well guess what Robbie, I may be on "your time", but I'll take "MY MONEY" and put it in another bbq owner's pocket.

The food here is always good. The meat is tender and the sauce is fantastic! My coworkers and i often get take out here for lunch. The pulled pork sandwiches and rib tips are awesome. My only complaint is that the older woman who works here can be rude at times. But that hasn't stopped us from coming here because the food is just that good.

Hmmm. Food quantity is good. For me, too much sauce, overwhelms the taste of the meat. Sauce is too sweet and too much like what you can get out of a bottle at the grocery store.

Good food, terrible service and bad attitude towards customers. Ordered food 30 min in advance, showed up in the food was not ready. Waited 10 min in restaraun you and when I asked how long it would be there for used to tell me and basically told me to leave if I couldn't wait. No apologies even. Poorly staffed, poor attitude. Their BBQ is not good enough to keep customers with that kind of attitude. Very disappointed.

Mr D and I kicked off the New Year with BBQ Wednesday at Lil Mickey's in St Peters. We found a nice little place, clean and bright in a refurbished Taco Bell. They told us they had been in business for nine years and in this location for three years. Mr D and I each ordered a half slab of their spare ribs and I added a chopped pork sandwich. Portions here are very generous, in fact the sandwich is a giant of a thing. This food really is served in a style true to some of the older places in Memphis, true to their moniker. The ribs had peppery and garlicky rub that I liked. The meat was properly done, tender but not mush. It had mild smoke. I liked the ribs. They are cut apart and served with a dollop of sauce across one end of the ribs. The sandwich is a generous layer of yellow coleslaw on the bottom and a big layer of chopped pork on top. All of that is ladled over with their sauce and is on a very large bun. This would be a bit messy to try to eat as a sandwich, so I removed the bun top and ate it with a fork. I should have ordered it as a platter. Their slaw, although bright yellow with mustard, is not over-flavored with mustard. It is creamy, sweet and tangy. It also has some sweet pickle relish incorporated. I would judge their sauce to be a little sweeter than typical Memphis, but it had some nice spice and good vinegar to balance the sweet. Though sweet, this is definitely not KC sauce. On this particular day, I found the chopped pork to be just a little stale. I understand this can vary at any place from day to day, especially a small one. The slaw and sauce hid that pretty well. I enjoyed my meal very much as well as the leftovers. On a return, I would certainly get ribs and ask for sauce on the side. I would probably get chopped or pulled pork as a platter rather than a sandwich, just because I don't need to eat that huge bun. Serving this way (with sauce ladled on) is definitely something you will run into in Memphis, but I would ask them for sauce on the side for a sandwich or platter. They do put a lot of sauce on. I also had potato salad, which is very simple and almost mashed potatoes. I always eat slaw and potato salad together and these worked well together. This is really pretty traditional barbecue. It is not one of the new, trendy, creative competition places that are opening so often these days in St Louis. It reminded me of eating the food and Ms Paynes in Memphis. This is blue collar barbecue. The people were very nice and it was a good experience. I always am looking for simple, honest places like this.

I really liked it. BBQ is like sushi to me ... it's hard at times to know the difference. I have my favorite in St. Louis, but as Brian M. noted, Lil Mickey's is a great place for good bbq on the west side of the river. An old Taco Bell location (I am pretty sure), very plain inside but good music on and friendly, helpful staff. I bought the combo platter as a first time. They did ask me about sauce on or sauce on the side - I took sauce on. I ate a bit of each of 4 meats and then asked for more sauce to take home. I ate more later that night (this was a late lunch). I also had the beans and the cole slaw, liked the both. Worth checking out.

Great hole in the wall BBQ joint. Crazy sweet sauce with some spice behind it. Side items were awesome as well. I think its hilarious that their menu signs above the register say coming soon, but have been like that for 2 years. If you're in the area, check them out. You won't be disappointed. On par with Bogarts, better than Salt&Smoke. Just don't come for the ambience.

Bar none, the best BBQ in the St. Louis area... Awesome smoked meat; pork steaks so tender you don't need a knife, awesome sauce with a nice kick. Really puts those expensive hipster joints to shame. I will admit the service isn't always friendly, but it is always efficient; they just don't take any BS. And you better not lose your ticket! Its in an old Taco Bell, a bit off the beaten path; not a hip or fancy place, but a step up from their old place which had three tables in a small strip mall shop. If you like good Memphis style BBQ, its worth stopping by...you won't leave sorry. Beans are good; slaw is kinda odd made with mustard instead of mayo. I usually opt for the fries and beans as sides.

YELP helped us find this place while passing through town on a road trip. Excellent reviews and we loved it too. We got the pulled pork mini sandwiches. There was nothing mini about them. Tender pork and cole slaw piled on the bottom half of a bun with sweet barbecue sauce poured over the top, then topped with the other half of the bun. We needed a fork to eat it. We also tried the potato salad which had a bit of a tangy dressing, delicious. Fries and baked beans were good. Be warned: service is slow. One person behind the counter and one person in the kitchen. We were in no hurry so it didn't matter to us but it is something to keep in mind so you are prepared to wait. There isn't a lot of seating as it is an old Taco Bell but it seemed like most people were taking their orders to go. I wish I lived near here so I could go back and eat at Lil' Mickey's Memphis Barbeque again.

This HAS TO GET 5 STARS The place is an old Taco Bell that needs some new decorating but if you stop here, you wont notice for long.... The pulled pork sandwich is s serious BBQ indeed. You must be prepared to pick it up and get messy! Soooo worth it! My son was totally laughing at me ...a mostly vegitarian ....scarfing the sandwich down in record time!! A must go to for BBQ!

I am rarely in St. Peters, however I now have a reason to make the long trek out to the Cave Springs exit. That reason is for some of the best BBQ west of 270, I would even say its right up there with the best in the entire metro area. The barbecue here is nothing fancy, its just good messy deliciousness. A little background here, Lil' Mickey's Memphis Barbecue is owned by a relation of the Neeley's from Food Network. The quality shows because this is seriously some of the best messy barbecue I have had. Whatever you order comes smothered in some amazing sauce, now usually I dislike my barbecue smothered in sauce however Lil' Mickeys is the exception to the rule. I have been twice and ordered the Chopped Beef Brisket, which is amazing. The Baked Beans here are very good too. As far as ambience and atmosphere there really isn't any, only a few photographs on the walls and the distinct smell of the bbq cooking in back. The inside has always been clean, however this is by no means a place to bring a date, unless you met her on Yelp and loves quality messy barbecue. I almost forgot to mention that this is located in a former Taco Bell, so its almost too easy to accidentally drive by if you are not paying attention. The staff is always friendly and the prices are reasonable. If you are craving quality barbecue smothered in sauce make the trek out to St. Peters and treat yourself to the deliciousness served here.

We split a Sampler Platter, easily enough for two average appetites or one person that's starving. The chicken tasted good but it was dry. The ribs were tender but not "fall off the bone". The brisket is more of a "pulled" style not sliced, it was juicy and was seasoned well. The pulled pork was also moist and tasted good. The sauce was very sweet - I thought it was even a tad sweet for what I know as Memphis style BBQ. The beans and fries were just average. Everyone seemed to be carrying out rather than eating in and the staff would openly argue with each other. Waiting customers were asked not to sit in a certain area of the store because it was being cleaned - odd but the place was empty other than the few carry out orders ahead of us so not inconvenient. Overall, I didn't find this place to be anything special. I'm not sure I'll be back.

The food is really great! But, there's something in the wing that will give you dry throat. So yeah. I'm not telling you to not get the wings. But. Beware.

AAaaaahMaazing BBQ! You will NOT leave hungry from this place! Don't come for the ambiance or atmosphere, as it's just an old Taco Bell, but Wow, the food!! Which is why you search out BBQ in the first place! Beans & slaw just as good too. I most definitely will be back!

Don't let the ugly old building (most likely an old Taco Bell) and the poor location stop you. I was in the area and wanted some good BBQ. Who wouldn't in St. Louis right??? Well based on the reviews I tried this place. The portions were huge, and I was strongly encouraged to try the pulled pork sandwich, but something inside of me was screaming BRISKET. So I got two sandwiches. They were both big enough to stand on their own as a meal. So I ate the pulled pork first. Pretty darn good slaw on it and the sauce had a great flavor. Then came the BRISKET sandwich. IT was excellent and far superior to the pulled pork. I could literally taste it for two days after in my mind. If you go don't listen to the people that work there, just get the brisket!!! :) Oh and to top it off they were playing the best blues music inside. It just made you happy being there.

I've done two cross country road trips from Atlanta to Seattle and both times I've made it a point to stop here, then again on my way to lake of the Ozarks. It's an unassuming little place in a former Taco Bell but like all hidden holes in the wall, it's a gem worth finding. All of their sides are phenomenal and the BBQ is the bomb.gov . And don't be deterred by the Comic Sans. Lemonade stands and solid BBQ havens are allowed by federal law to use Comic Sans freely and liberally.

This place is all about making some of the best BBQ in Metro Saint Louis. If you need ambiance, extra nice help, or fancy anything, go someplace else, spend more money and get less food. My highest recommendation for the Pulled Pork sandwich. It's the first time I ate a sandwich with slaw on it, and it was amazing. The beans have BBQ in it, not pork fat. Simply excellent. What else can I say except, why aren't you leaving already?

The ribs are to die for. So great! The pulled pork sandwich is also a favorite of mine. The chicken is too dry, so skip that. The older man working the counter is always nice and has a friendly face. But, sometimes an older woman works the counter and she can be a drag. The food more than makes up for it. I always go back for more!!!

I'm pulling out the 5-star on this one! This is a hole in the wall location that was an old Taco Bell that I spent time at when I was younger. It's totally unassuming, which I really love about it. Family owned place which makes you feel good spending money there and the BBQ is done the right way. It taste like you would expect to be eating it at a summer BBQ, outside with your family, loving the hell out of life. I was told not to play around and just get the pulled pork covered in slaw. It literally covered a plate, I didn't get any sides and was totally happy. If I lived close I would eat here more. I hope they stay busy and successful b/c they know what they're doing. If you find yourself in St. Charles County, stop on in for some family style BBQ, it doesn't get much better in the STL Metro...

Went with the office team for lunch today and wasn't disappointed. Not a lot of space because it used to be a Taco Bell, but there was a large enough table for us, so we were happy. Most people got the pulled pork sandwich and they all loved it. A couple had it with cole slaw on top (real southern style) and said it really added to the taste profile, and one had it with meat only, and was still very satisfied. The sandwiches are huge! I ordered the rib tips and got a plate with almost to much to eat. Almost. I persevered and got through them, relishing every piece. There was an [almost] to generous portion of sauce on them, but it wasn't really distracting, just messy. I wish the lunches came with a side, but they are very large and worth it as it. The dinners come with 2 sides if you really want to gorge.

Got the brisket and had some ribs. Sauce was thick, sweet & spicy. Really enjoyed the xtra dry rub. Thanks for the great food.

For some strange reason they no longer sell meat by the pound for carry out. Sorry, but I don't order meat by the pound to eat in the dining room. Maybe you should update the menu. It is confusing when I order a pound of pulled pork and you look at me like I am crazy. I'm sure it's a money grab, forcing me to buy individual sandwiches instead of a pile of meat that I can make my own sandwiches with. Literally every BBQ place on the planet sells meat by the pound, not sure why this place suddenly finds it necessary to turn away customers. I drove 1 mile to Stumpys and they happily sold me a pound of pulled pork and didn't act like I was crazy for ordering it.

Ok food, but would rather have Sugarfire or Pappy's. Large portions but too much sauce. Brisket was really dry and tough even with all the sauce. The pulled pork was good and served Carolina style with slaw on top. Potato salad tasted store bought and grainy. Fries were not cooked through all the way.

Best ribs in town. I try to get them at least once a week.

They stopped offering the best pork steaks in town, but kept their fatty brisket and over priced ribs. What a shame! The St. Louis area is the home of the BBQ pork steak and you cannot get one here. Price was given as the excuse for removing the pork steaks, us pork steak lovers would have gladly paid a little more.

I discovered this place a couple months ago through word of mouth from a friend of mine.I like to consider myself a BBQ aficionado and was told that I have to try this place. This is EXCEPTIONAL Memphis style BBQ. I have been there 3 times now and have tried the pulled pork sandwich, the brisket, and the ribs.... my lord! The ribs! Good spare ribs are hard to find as babybacks have gotten so popular, and these are the best I have ever had. Their sauce is outstanding and the last time I bought a 1/2 gallon to take home. Its not as big and flashy as other places here in town but please reserve your judgement until after you have tried their food. Truly wonderful BBQ!

Make no pork butts about it, I am a BBQ fan! Lil' Mickey's Barbeque has been on my radar for months now. However, my job allows me little time to trek over to Cave Springs. With work winding down, I decided to run over to the place for the first time. I couldn't help but to break into boisterous laughter when I set eyes on this Taco Bell turned BBQ joint. I could imagine all the poor meals and grade D meat once served there. Well, that mediocre meat has been replaced with pork shoulder and beef brisket being smoked in the back. When exploring new BBQ options, it's difficult not to reflect on the StL kings, the brotherhood of Pappy's/Bogart's. Still, Mickey's holds its own, especially considering the location is nearly thirty miles from each of the Q titans. Residents of St. Charles must be thrilled to have quality smoked meats closer to the sprawl. I opened my styrofoam container to find a pulled pork shoulder sandwich on a bun that clearly came out of the second part of a Jonathan Swift novel. Right away, I knew my little mits couldn't handled a sammie of this magnitude. Thus, this sandwich was deemed a "Knife and Fork Job!" My only qualms with LMMB are that the cashier didn't offer me sauce options and that the sandwich comes with coleslaw on it. I still enjoyed the sandwich immensely and will next try the brisket.

Perfectly cooked meat, great sauce and LOTS of it (which I love), amazing sides, reasonably priced, and MASSIVE portions. What more do you need in a BBQ place? Tucked away in an old Taco Bell building behind Firestone near the big plaza with the Electric Cowboy and Kokomo Joe's, it's quite the unassuming little joint and BAM! Amazing BBQ! The sides are all delicious. The coleslaw and potato salad are almost from opposite universes. The slaw is mustard based and with the lid on looks like it could be the potato salad. The potato salad is kind of mashed, a little sweet, a little tangy, a little different, and amazing and in turn looks like the coleslaw with the lid on. Glad I remembered to try this place! If you couldn't tell, I'll be back :-) And I'm bringing my in-laws (BBQ connoisseurs) next time they're in town and won't be worried if they'll like it or not.

I was a little hesitant at first. My husband and I have driven by it several times. Then a couple of weeks ago we decided to give it a try. Best barbecue I've ever had. We had been going to Ethyls in O'fallon and will continue to but Lil' Mickeys is a new favorite. Also, the portions are a great size.

Alright. I'm blown away at how good this place is. Honestly it just does everything right. We ordered the baked beans, fries, and rib tips. And MAN is this place good. The sauce has a small kick to it and I don't really know how else to describe it. The meat is extremely soft and slow cooked to perfection. The fries and baked beans were extremely good, this is one of those, you GOTTA come here places if you are visiting St Louis. I would order sauce on the side, so you can choose how much sauce you want on each piece; the rib tips came with a dry rub that also enhanced the flavor immensely.

I had a hard time between 3 and 4 stars for this establishment. The BBQ is good but nothing you'll want to tell everyone about. Its a decent stop for lunch and its very inexpensive. You will surely not leave hungry, they have some massive sandwiches!

Small place, in an old fast food building. Great quality BBQ. Pork steak and brisket sandwich were huge and tasted amazing. If you don't want a lot of sauce you can get it on the side. Don't ask the lady at the front what size the pork steak is.... Apparently you can't know this information because she refused to answer it ( top secret ?) but as expected, it was big.

As a Kansas City native, obviously I was eager to get my hands on some kind of authentic bar-b-q in the St. Charles County area. The building is a little quirky, but my expectations were still high. Unfortunately, those expectations fell flat... on their face... in a mud puddle. I ordered the chopped pork, beans, and slaw. The pork had decent smoke flavor, but was EXTREMELY overcooked. The beans had a good sauce, but again, overcooked and mushy (I think good beans should still have a bit of texture and "crunch" left). The cole slaw was probably my favorite part , overlooking the heavy sauce, and heavy-handed pepper seasoning. I ordered it to-go, and the styrofoam container had enough sauce to douse 10 meals in. I'm a traveling consultant, so when I'm in North Carolina or Memphis, bar-b-q joints are high on my list of go-to lunch or dinner spots. The best part of bar-b-q is finding that epic eatery that's in an old, worn down, grungy shack, but then the food just blows you away. Unfortunately this once Taco Bell turned bar-b-q shack didn't fulfill that "diamond in the rough" criteria. As far as the customer service, I'm indifferent either way. For as dead as it was (nobody in there at 4:15 pm ish), I think the counter could have tried a little harder to leave an impression, and possibly gain a repeat customer to venture to a different menu item next trip. Again, mud puddle, and can't say I'll be venturing back to subdue my hometown roots bar-b-q cravings anytime in the future.

I reviewed them on google once, and now I will post an updated note here. About a week ago, I called in an order for a half slab, sauce on the side, beans and fries dinner. The gentleman was very polite, and when I picked up the food he was nice as well. Yada yada yada about where you are from and what you have eaten. I've been all over too, and I will tell you, this is a great place. The ribs were very good. They had a great seasoning and were smoked expertly. The ends may have been a tiny bit dry for some people, but I felt they were great. The bone pulls out very easily. They were full of flavor. Other BBQ places in the St Louis area need to come taste the bbq beans at Lil' Mickey's. They are GREAT! Full of flavor and meat. They don't skimp on portion size either! The fries were (MY FAULT) a bit cold. I was late picking up the items, but they still tasted good. They are seasoned as well. Never miss an opportunity to season an item! The sauce is very sweet. I like it sweet, but a tiny bit too sweet for me, but of course I used it just fine! It wasn't 100% to my taste, but it was about 97% there, and for a restaurant that is a great percentage. I hope they don't get lost in the shuffle when a new bbq place opens in St Charles soon. Keep on making great BBQ and I will keep coming by!

The ribs were fall off the bone tender. Delicious! The smoked turkey was very moist and delicious also. Portions are great on the meats- skimpy on sides. The sides were just ok. Standard soft drink fare. They have no sign at the street of this former Taco Bell. No menu on wall either as you enter. Coming soon signs. The counter help was less than helpful. They close early and only carry Out is available the last half hour so they can clean the 6 tables in the dining room. The dining room was hot the night we Are there. Good food Horrible atmosphere Mediocre service

Excellent! The briskett sandwich is done the way I grew up with brisket - tender chunks of meat - not "deli sliced" - and piled on. I mean PILED on. Sauce is great. Not spicy, but there is a subtle kick. Per the man's suggestion at the counter, we went with the slaw on the sandwich. Again, another great call! My only regret is that I live and work kinda far from here ... it's all relative, really. Look for the Taco Bell-looking building, tucked into a small corner lot ... and enjoy!

My husband and I stumbled onto Lil Mickey's yesterday while waiting for our car to be inspected next door. I used to live in Memphis and let me say that this BBQ is outstanding! We met the owner who is an extremely nice man. The sauce is beyond perfection and we will definitely be back to try everything on the menu. We both had the pulled pork sandwiches which are divine.

Price is well below what this food is worth. It may be the best BBQ I've ever had. The outside is a real turn off because it looks like a really old Mexican restaurant but the good is unreal. It just won the 2014 best BBQ in saint Louis. Amazing food, especially for the price.

My go to place for carryout BBQ in St Charles County. Excellent ribs, sauce, pulled and chunked pork, cole slaw and baked beans with chunks of meat throughout! Hefty portions too!

Okay, so this was one hell of an experience. I went here with a certified Kansas City BBQ (KCBS) judge. Yeah, he was CERTIFIED to give a professional opinion. Their ribs are some of the best I've ever had in my life, if not the best. Billy Simm's in OKC, and Hard 8's in Coppel, TX are my other favorites. My buddy concurred that these were excellent ribs with a rub that is "out of this world", his words not mine. The pulled pork was great and flavorful, and it wasn't dried out at all. I love their house sauce, it hits all the right notes for a quality sauce. The sides were a bit lackluster, but I'm not concerned about the sides, I am there for the meat. Service was quick and friendly, prices were reasonable for BBQ, the restaurant was clean, but it was a bit too hot inside making it uncomfortable to eat. I was sweating before we even got our meals. If you are in the area, you should definitely give this place a try. It is well worth it!

Loved this place. Went there on a Friday with the family and the lady behind the counter was full of smiles and so was the cook when he peeked out. The food was excellent. We felt like we were down south in someone's kitchen. Can't wait to go back.

Best BBQ in St. Peters, Truly honest Memphis BBQ, although the restaurant itself could use a little upgrade the food is second to none.

  • Martin C.

I have been in twice now, and found the food to be really good. Pork sandwich's are served over coleslaw which is the way I like it. Just be forewarned that the lady taking orders is a royal pain in the ass. Talk about an unpleasant lady! It's hard, but try not to let it ruin your meal.

  • Jon R.

The barbecue is ok. It is very tender, but the meat itself lacks a lot of flavor. If you like lots of sauce with your barbecue, then it might be a good choice for you. The barbecue was smothered in sauce and I think it was a little overkill. The restaurant was clean and had some character, but just a different type of barbecue than I am accustomed to.

Not a fan! From the first step in the door, we were not welcomed at all! I am not looking for a restaurant to roll out the red carpet, but be at least interested that someone is there to purchase their food! Our order was simple...pulled pork sandwiches. We waited forever and were hardly even talked to the entire time in the building. Pulled pork had no real taste or flavor. We had to load on the sauce for any kind of taste. Will not be going back!

Oh man! If you have never been to Lil' Mickey's, you're missing out! Even though their new location is in an old Taco Bell, don't let the exterior fool you! THE FOOD HERE IS GREAT! I always get the pulled pork sandwich (sauce on the side) and fries and it is always a good choice! The serving sizes are pretty big (the sandwich is at least the size of my face!) and the food is always amazing. The BBQ sauce is slightly sweet and slightly spicey...perfect combo in my opinion! The meat is always tender and juicy, never dry! The coleslaw they put on the sandwich is way better than KFC's....mayo based with a slight kick as well. And even though you may think "fries are fries", you're wrong! These fries are always fresh, crisp/crunchy on the outside, yet moist and hot on the inside. Make sure you know what you want before you get to the cashier though. If it's an older lady, she won't waste her time for you to tap your foot and read the menu (seriously...she scares me a bit...I always have my husband order in case I mess up our order!). Plus, the place is always pretty busy, so you wouldn't want to waste someone else's time in line. Go try it if you haven't and if you have, then you know what I'm talking about! Yummy!
